Ryofu Hosen is a strong fighter with a very promiscuous personality and a habit of wearing skimpy clothes. She is highly skilled at creating chi blasts and is an exceptionally powerful fighter, but she is afflicted with a deadly illness that will kill her before adulthood. She now hopes to fight not only destiny but her illness as well.

Appearance[]

Ryofu has a ruddy complexion and seafoam green hair that is always tied into pigtails. She is usually seen wearing the Rakuyo school uniform, which consists of a matching red blazer and skirt and brown shoes. Unlike the other students, however, her socks are almost knee-high and she does not wear the white shirt and tie underneath the blazer, exposing the cleavage of her large breasts.

Personality[]

In the anime, Ryofu is very perverted; she enjoys taking advantage of Shimei Ryomou, casually comments on how much she likes having Saji touch her, and even gropes Hakufu simply for fun. However, unlike the original Lu Bu—her bullheaded, short-tempered predecessor who cared only for his own desires—she is very courageous and deeply caring toward her friends. She is willing to fight an entire gang of Rakuyo personnel to save her childhood friend and lover, Koudai Chinkyuu, the person she truly cares for and genuinely loves; while she has genuine affection for Saji, it is not as strong as the love she has for Chinkyuu. Chinkyuu is raped and beaten by Rakuyo personnel, specifically Chizen Rikaku. Despite her negative actions toward Ryomou, Ryofu still cares about the Nanyo student and even asks her to take care of Saji when Ryofu dies.

Personality and Story in the Manga[]

In the manga, Ryofu enjoys making fun of Ryomou, often telling jokes about her and Saji. Unlike in the anime, she truly loves Saji (as much as she loves Chinkyuu) and Ryomou, and even though she acts as a spy, she genuinely falls for Saji.

She is very caring toward her friends—Chinkyuu, Ryomou, and Saji. Ryofu considers Ryomou to be a good friend (even if the feeling is not necessarily reciprocated at first) and cares deeply about both her and Saji.

Knowing she does not have much time left to live, Ryofu asks Ryomou to take care of Saji. At the same time, she gives Ryomou the true Sovereign's Seal, which she previously stole from Chuuei Toutaku, before fighting him.

After Ryomou asks what she is supposed to do with it, Ryofu answers that it is neither her destiny nor Ryomou's to become king, and that no one but Hakufu Sonsaku deserves to be the ruler. Even without meeting Hakufu, she acknowledges her as her king.

(Being from Rakuyo, she probably had information about Hakufu and saw the same good-natured battle maniac as herself. If they had had the chance to meet, there is little doubt that Hakufu and Ryofu would have become great friends.)

Ryofu then departs to search for Chinkyuu, who has not been heard from since before her fight with Toutaku. When she discovers that Chinkyuu tried to steal the Sovereign's Seal—the fake that Ryofu herself had placed there as a replacement—and was taken in by Bunwa Kaku and Rikaku, where she was beaten and raped by the latter, Ryofu kills Rikaku on the spot and takes Chinkyuu to the hospital.

There, she bids farewell to Chinkyuu, who is still alive, and then departs for her final battle against Moutoku Sousou, who has placed a bounty on her head after Kaku Bunwa gives him the "Sovereign's Seal."

She fights Myousai Kakouen, but her body cannot endure any longer, and the fight ends without a clear winner.

When Kakouen tries to deliver the finishing blow to Ryofu as she lies on the ground, Chinkyuu appears and prevents Kakouen from succeeding. A short fight breaks out between the two, but Chinkyuu cannot match Kakouen. Sousou appears and stops Kakouen when she tries to kill Chinkyuu. He asks Chinkyuu to join his army, but she refuses without a moment's hesitation, saying that her only ruler is Ryofu. They walk together until they reach Ryofu; after exchanging a few words with her, they take their two magatama and use a forbidden technique to destroy them both in a double suicide, wishing that if they are reincarnated, it will not be as fighters.

Story (Anime)[]

Ikkitousen[]

Ryofu is first seen going up against Saji after a meeting with Toutaku does not end in Saji's favor. She easily defeats Saji, but it is revealed that she spared him instead of killing him as Toutaku ordered.

She is then seen going up against Ryomou and is able to defeat her after goading her into a battle and paralyzing her. Ryofu takes advantage of the situation and begins to play with her sexually, then leaves, encouraging Ryomou to come and fight her again by entering and reaching the finals of the great fighters' tournament.

After Toutaku refuses to see the great fighters' tournament through to the end, Ryofu and Chinkyuu rebel against Rakuyo Academy. Ryofu later returns to Rakuyo after learning that Chinkyuu tried to take the jewel for Ryofu's sake and finds Chinkyuu in a near-death state, prompting Ryofu to beat up the people responsible.

After Chinkyuu passes away, Ryofu goes to Rakuyo High School determined to defy fate and kill Toutaku. She is forced to fight Hakufu instead and loses after Hakufu enters her dragon state. Ryofu is still able to defy fate, however, by killing both herself and Toutaku using a technique she learned during a previous session with her master at the fighters' spa.

Trivia[]

  • Ryofu is considered the strongest female Toushi in the Kanto region in both the manga and the anime, especially in the anime, where she is rarely ever bested by other Toushi in Kanto, such as Unchou Kan-u. This does not account for Toushi in the Kansai region, such as Musashibo Benkei, who withstands a technique from Koumei Jokou—the strongest of the Three Pillar Gods of Kyosho—that knocks Kan-u out in one hit. This shows that Benkei is actually stronger than Kan-u, even though the latter recently became the only S-rank Toushi in Kanto.
  • In Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Lu Bu, from whom Ryofu is reincarnated, is considered the strongest warrior.
  • The only reason Ryofu has trouble with Toukaku and Kakouen is because her terminal illness wreaks havoc on her body and significantly lowers her fighting capabilities. If she were not ill, she would be able to defeat both of them with little effort.
  • Ryofu is therefore more powerful—unarguably—than Kan-u or Shiryuu Chou-un, two individuals from Seito who are very powerful in their own right and stronger than most Toushi in Kanto.
  • The subplot of Ryofu saying that she was raped by Saji and having a love-hate relationship with him appears only in the English adaptation of the manga, published by Tokyopop. This is not mentioned or shown in the original Japanese manga, which is canon.
